Richard Giulianotti is currently one of the most creative, productive and most frequently cited sociologists of sport worldwide. He began his academic career at the University of Aberdeen conducting ethnographic research on football-related violence among the supporters of Scottish clubs. He used to work also at the Durham University, currently he is a professor of sociology in School of Sport, Exercise, and Health Sciences at the Loughborough University. He was researching the topics of globalization and glocalization of football, commercialization of sport, sport mega events hosting, security, international programmes on sport for development and peace, as well as sociological theory. Professor Giulianotti is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
