Abstract

Poetry in qualitative research is not yet widely recognized as a scientifically legitimate method for collecting and representing data in empirical studies. However, the assumption of a contradiction between scientific thinking and poetic creativity is only apparent. Poetic inquiry is a research approach that utilizes poetry as a method for exploration, analysis, and representation of research findings. In the article, I explain why it is worthwhile to embrace poetic forms at various stages of the research process. I also demonstrate how poetry can be created from obtained data, and discuss the distinguishing characteristics of ars poetica, which can serve as reference points for poetic inquiries in qualitative research, conveying the richness of human experiences that may not be fully captured by traditional academic texts.

Doktor, adiunkt w Instytucie Socjologii Uniwersytetu Marii Curie-Skłodowskiej w Lublinie. Jej zainteresowania badawcze koncentrują się wokół problematyki badań jakościowych i wykorzystywania tych metod w badaniach terenowych nad migracjami, marginalizacją społeczną, obcością i tożsamością społeczną. Jest autorką książek Transmisja kultury w rodzinie i w szkole. Teoria Basila Bernsteina (2010) oraz Nepalczycy w Polsce (2023).
