Abstract

On January 25th, 2019, The University of South Florida sponsored an event to honor the legacy of Carolyn Ellis and Arthur Bochner as they retire after more than 85 years (combined) teaching. In this paper, research collaborators, students, and friends present their testimonials commemorating their shared lives with Professors Ellis and Bochner. A collection of short stories reveals “official” and “non-official” (in some cases very personal) experiences as they were lived through, inviting readers to see how academic intergenerational relationships might develop as contextually situated and morally important.

Marcin Kafar, University of Lodz, Department of Educational Studies

Kafar Marcin – assistant professor at the Department of Educational Studies of the University of Lodz; editor of several book series and member of the editorial board of “NOWIS.” He is currently conducting research on scientific biographies in Poland and the United States. Recepient of internhips (2010, 2016) and visiting professor (2018) at the Department of Communication, University of South Florida, USA.
Csaba Osvath, University of South Florida, Department of Teaching and Learning

Osvath Csaba – doctoral candidate at the University of South Florida, pursuing literacy studies with a special focus on qualitative methods and arts-based inquiry. His current project centers on the integration of evocative autoethnographic writing and contemplative artmaking (mixed media collage), establishing a makercentered method within the field of autoethnography and narrative inquiry.

Scheffels Erin – holds a doctorate in communication, graduate of the University of South Florida, where she studied under the guidance of Arthur Bochner and Carolyn Ellis.
Lisa P. Spinazola, University of South Florida, Department of Communication

Spinazola Lisa Pia Zonni – Ph.D., recent graduate from the Department of Communication at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. Her research interests include interpersonal communication, storytelling, narrative reframing, autoethnography, compassionate interviewing, emotions, trauma, addiction, and families. Her most recent book project explores the stigma and shame surrounding family estrangement narratives

Tillmann Lisa M. – activist researcher, documentary filmmaker, and professor of critical media and cultural studies at Rollins College.
