Sound Quality Management in the Public Space

Abstract

The main aim of the paper is presenting activities in the scope of sound quality management of the public space. The paper was based on analysis of available bibliography and internet pages. Important role of acoustic designing was also noticed. Analysis of Lublin soundscapes questionnaires is experiential part of the researches.

Sound quality management is connected to society participation at its shaping. While public space designing it is necessary to ask inhabitants what kind of sounds they would like to hear, or which source of noise would be especially bothersome. Subjective evaluation of noise bothersome and acoustic designing of the public space should be integral part of environmental protection against noise and revitalization programs. Education of society and decision-makers plays important in the scope of acoustic designing especially though the activities toward sound sensibility shaping using the possibilities of internet. Designing of sound walk pathway and introducing sound sculptures in the public space can be considered as fundamental for such kind of activities.
