The aim of this article is to demonstrate the effectiveness of applying the Social Paradigm of Schizophrenia (SPS) perspective in the analysis of user experiences on the r/schizophrenia subreddit. The study utilized the method of qualitative thematic analysis (treating narratives substantively as ways of defining the illness and associated experiences rather than as specific objects of specialized study themselves), supplemented by the use of CAQDAS tools. The text focuses on the platform’s unique mechanisms – such as reddiquette and moderation rules – which shape forms of communication and influence the processes of identity formation and building social support. The findings confirm that the social dimension of the schizophrenia experience is as crucial as the medical aspect, and that the SPS perspective can be an effective tool for a deeper understanding of the challenges and needs of individuals living with schizophrenia. Furthermore, the organization of communities such as r/schizophrenia may serve as an example of modern forms of support, allowing for the compensation of social deficits resulting from various disorders.
