Abstract

The purpose of the research presented in the paper was to investigate whether phonation with a narrowed vocal tract improves selected vocal parameters in singers. The research group consisted of 10 participants (5 females and 5 males) aged 20–29, who were in vocal training at the time of the examination and were healthy, i.e. they did not report chronic diseases or other illnesses and infections. The subjects performed a 2.5‑minute set of exercises using a 0.5 × 21.5 cm straw as part of their training. Before and after the tasks, their voice was assessed (overall voice quality, timbre of voice, level of voice fatigue, easiness with which voice is produced, or ability to transition between registers). The results of the study indicate the effectiveness of the SOVT exercises, confirmed in the self‑assessment of voice quality, auditory-perceptual evaluation of voice and the maximum phonation time /a/.
