Abstract

The aim of the research is to identify the importance of Community support and its intensity for investments in renewable energy sources carried out by enterprises in Polish provinces.

The spatial diversity of RES sources and the share of companies implementing projects in this area at the regional level were also identified. The time frame of the study covered the years 2014 to 2024 and 2021–2023. The study was based on an analysis of data obtained from project descriptions directly related to investments in renewable energy installations. The data source was a list of projects financed by European Funds in 2014–2020 and 2021–2024 (as of August 13, 2024) as well as statistical data from the Central Statistical Office.

Regional Operational Programs (ROP) in 2014–2020 were an important tool for shaping regional development policy, including obtaining financing for investments in renewable energy sources (RES), which could be used by local government units, residents, and businesses. In the current programming period 2021–2027, the ROPs have been replaced by European Funds Programs (EFP) for a given province, which perform the same function in the structure of financial instruments as their predecessors.

The study showed that since 2014, enterprises have most often obtained financial support for photovoltaic (PV) installations under Regional Programs. Furthermore, the intensity of funding acquisition by enterprises in relation to the number of enterprises in a province varies regionally and indicates the highest activity in the provinces of Eastern Poland.
