The introduction to the volume consists of two parts. The first one is devoted to the concise description of contemporary position of sociology of sport in Poland and abroad, pointing at the vitality and multidimensionality of the sport-related debates in the scientific discourses within social sciences. The second one concentrates on the brief presentation of the thematic content of the volume which illuminates the wide range of scientific reflection concerning sport in the contemporary discourse.
