Abstrakt

In the Polish archeology the research on the countryside from fully historical times (i.e. from the medieval times up till now) has been purely incidental. Actually, it was only the Lower Silesia Region that was fully described in a specific publication. However, this piece of writing described the late medieval rural colonization and although it included 218 sites, only a few of them were a subject of more extensive excavation research.

So, not much is known about the differences of rural planning in various regions of the country, the types and transformations of construction. However, it was just the rural colonization that dominated in the landscape of medieval and modern Poland. Another area that has been poorly examined is the material culture of peasants. That is why this paper attempts to deal with the issue of museums of traditional folk buildings.
