The influence of the language of "De oratione communi seu fidelium" on the language of Polish universal prayers

Abstract

The universal prayer as a text genre was introduced into the Mass liturgy in the 1970s. First, guidelines were produced in the Constitution on the Liturgy, followed by collections of model prayers in Latin and French. Later, texts of prayers in the national languages were produced. A comparison of the texts produced in Polish (edited by Franciszek Malaczynski) with the Latin-French matrix (De oratione communi seu fidelium) shows the scale of textual borrowings, the specificity of dynamic translation and the language used to express religious content. In the confessional Polish communicative community, the adoption of some texts from the matrix makes it possible to show the transfer and processing of textual patterns for the needs of the Catholic Church in Poland. Particular formulas are also present in the texts of subsequent collections of universal prayers: 1984, 1987, 2003.
