Polish literature in Croatian translation: an overview

Abstract

Literary translation from Polish to Croatian has a long history. The majority of translations were made in the mid-nineteenth century, and since then, translations of successive books have been published constantly. At the beginning of the last decade of the twentieth century, Croatia saw major political, social and cultural changes, which also contributed to changes in the literary field, and resulted in different ways of bringing Polish literature to Croatia, as well as new ways of functioning of translations of that literature on the local market. The purpose of this article is to outline the dynamics of translation projects, and to describe translations and texts that have been introduced into in the Croatian cultural space.
