Abstrakt

Present article concerns socio-cultural consequences of clinical diagnosis of Asperger’s syndrome. The authoress shows, that the label of psychiatric and neurological illness is often a source of subjectively experienced suffering for persons receiving such diagnosis, their relatives and friends. It may also lead to the process of stigmatization and spoil individual’s identity. Thus, the process of diagnosing should not be a routine procedure lacking reflection, especially on ethical aspects. Theres is also urgent necessity to educate the society about psychiatric and neurological illnesses in order to prevent the attitudes of stigmatization and discrimination of the patients and their families.
