Abstract

The aim of this article is to analyze how the creative potential manifested in childhood was successively developed in the late childhood and adolescence periods, and what were the parents’ attitudes towards the creative potential of their children. The research used the method of the qualitative interview. A study was conducted among 33 parents who in the first study (2013) indicated that their children have creative potential, and who also participated in the second study (2020–2021), describing to what extent these potential skills were developed. The results of the research indicate that the areas in which the creative potential of children were revealed are also suitable for young people, although some young people gave up their development or found an outlet for their creative passions in other areas than initially, in their early childhood. Individuals show the development of directional skills at a very high level, which is also associated with a high level of creative activity in a given field (e.g. music, art, social activities, acting, mathematics). In turn, the parents demonstrate four different attitudes towards their children’s creativity: supportive, indifferent, discouraged, and focused on coping with the child’s difficulties.
