Polish sociologist conduct research on singles only for several years, despite much longer history of singlehood in Poland. Therefore, to determine who should be the object of such studies is not clear. This text is devoted to the analysis of the characteristics of people living alone, such as marital status, age, type of household and the local environment, complemented by a team of subjective factors (one self-perception as a single or voluntary life choice). The publication also includes a discussion of lifestyle singles in the context of values such as privacy, independence, solitude, freedom, playfulness and sociability. In addition, this article describes the types of singlehood in relation to the nature of the relationship between singles and their social environment. Will be discussed in turn: solitude singlehood, independent singlehood, tribal singlehood, family singlehood and non-selective singlehood.
