Contemporary quantitative research in sociology

The editors of "Folia Sociologica" invite you to submit texts to the thematic issue devoted to contemporary quantitative research in sociology. We are interested in both examples of the use of quantitative methods in social research, methodological reflection, data collection procedures, descriptions of tools used in research with examples of their application, and mixed research. The issue aims to show how quantitative approaches broaden understanding of social phenomena in different contexts — from microinteractions to macrostructural processes.

Proposed thematic areas (examples)

  • New data sources and integration: digital trace, combining surveys with official data, working on big-data databases
  • Statistical models and techniques: multi-level models, network models, spatial models,
  • Machine Learning in Sociology: Prediction vs Explanation, Interpretability, Text-as-Data, Image and Sound Analysis, Fairness, and Algorithmic Bias.
  • Mixed research (quant + qual): combining quantitative models with discourse analysis, case studies with quantitative inference.
  • Thematic applications: inequalities, labour and labour market, health, education, migration, public policy, environment, technologies, social networks.

(Topics beyond the above list, as long as they fall within the quantitative methods in sociology, are welcome.)
