The genres of a sports commentary, running commentary, and news broadcast – a review of definitions

Abstract

The aim of the paper is to present the various attempts to name the genre of texts in which a presenter gives an account of a sports event: a sports commentary, running commentary, and news broadcast. The author presents the most important definitions of these terms which can be found in the literature, and proposes a systematisation of these terms in relation to specific media.
