Abstract

This work is a contribution to the study of the life and work of Ignacy Dąbrowski, a writer at the turn of the 119th and 20th centuries. His manuscripts, mostly preserved in excellent condition, were collected by Aniela Skórska, the writer’s niece. Today they are kept in the collection of the National Library in Warsaw. Chiseled and revised many times, they bear witness to the complex creative process that accompanied the prose writer as he worked on his successive works. An analysis of the surviving manuscripts and briefs allows for a deeper insight into Dąbrowski’s literary personality – a secretive and introverted character, while the arrangement of manuscript materials will be helpful in reconstructing and verifying the facts of his life.
