Abstract

The first polls on the speech of Poles in Bucovina were done in 1938 by the linguists M. Małecki and G. Nandriç. Following their research, which was meant to delimit the localities with Polish speech, the authors published the paper Notes on Polish dialects in Bucovina, in which they announced their intention to continue to study these dialects. Unfortunately, the outbreak of the Second World War did not allow them to bring their project to life. After the war ended, Polish dialects constituted a research field, both for Polish linguists and also for the Romanian ones.

The first colonists, after having emigrated from Poland, more precisely from Silezia and Małopolska, to Slovakia (the environs of the town Czadca), then again to Poland (at that lime Galitia) settled in the surroundings of the town Czerniowce a round the year 1800. From there they continued their journey, founding the village Nowy Sołoniec in 1834. As speciality bibliography up to date does not deal with lexical issues, the present article offers a short vocabulary in the domain of popular technique i.e. the preparation of food.
