Abstrakt

The origin of barrow cemeteries with stone circles has been the subject of study of many researchers. The excavations of the cemetery at Leśno have revealed finds that allow us to form new hypotheses. Among the finds of special interest are: a buckle with hook-like projections, mountings of drinking horns found in an interesting assemblage and a unique grave with a silver cup-shaped coin, probably Celtic, a scarab of ceramic substance and bronze fibulae of AIII52 type (Augenfibeln). In the light of the finds it is possible to date the beginnings of the Leśno cemetery to at least the late В1 phase of the Roman period. Moreover, they point to cultural contacts with the south-western (Marcomanni) culture circle. Also the process of settling the so-called settlement wastes in the Kaszuby-Krajna Lakeland is seen in a new light.
