We are proud to announce that Acta Universitatis Lodziensis. Folia Iuridica has been selected for inclusion in the Web of Science Core Collection.

The concept of recognition has become one of the central categories in contemporary social, political, and legal philosophy. Following Axel Honneth’s influential elaboration of the idea, recognition has been explored as a normative framework for understanding struggles over identity, dignity, and justice in modern societies. Legal sciences could as well benefit from theory of recognition, although this particular area of implementation remains underexplored. Also, the scope and limits of recognition remain contested, especially when it comes to its intersections with democracy, human rights, redistribution, and processes of reconciliation in contexts of violence.

This thematic issue will explore the idea of obligation from a critical and interdisciplinary perspective. Specifically, it will highlight effective ways to apply theoretical discussions to the practical challenges of contemporary law at international scale. Given the cross-cutting nature of the concept of legal obligation, both from a geographical and disciplinary point of view, an exchange of ideas between scholars from different legal cultures and professional traditions is essential to its proper study.

Read More Read more about CALL FOR PAPERS: Folia Iuridica vol. 115, 2026In 2025, it is planned to publish a volume of Folia Iuridica entitled "Encountering difference: The ‘other’ Philosophies of Human Rights" whose editors will be Dr. Florencia Benitez-Schaefer and JUDr. Olga Rosenkranzová. It will be devoted to encountering with philosophies of law and normativity that depart from predominant ‘modern Western’ understandings, linking them with key categories of Human Rights. The call invites in particular two types of contributions:
1) original reflections about specific issues in the theory and praxis of Human Rights, and
2) methodological inquiries that could enrich our ways to address Human Rights in the context of contemporary complexity (eg. arts-based and transpersonal research methods).
