CALL FOR PAPERS: "Comparative Legal History – Local, Regional, and Global Understanding of Law"
Whatever their form or intensity, these processes make clear that law does not
develop autonomously, but rather in continuous interaction with other normative and
intellectual frameworks, including legal, social, political, religious, or cultural systems.
Such interactions may occur at multiple levels. They may involve the adoption,
modification, or rejection of local paradigms; they may also unfold on a broader regional
scale. At the same time, in a world shaped by colonisation and decolonisation, the global
circulation of legal ideas, models, and institutions must also be taken into account. These
processes of legal transfer were not always successful, nor were they always direct or
transparent. In some cases, moreover, borrowing may not have occurred at all, and
similarities between legal institutions may instead reflect parallel development or
coincidental convergence.
All these phenomena deserve careful scholarly attention. For this reason, the
forthcoming thematic volume of Acta Universitatis Lodziensis. Folia Iuridica will be
devoted to the topic: “Comparative Legal History: Local, Regional, and Global
Understanding of Law.”
The editors invite submissions addressing a broad range of issues within
comparative legal history. Contributions may focus on, among other matters,
methodological questions, structural comparisons, legal transplants, the circulation of
legal ideas, and functional or doctrinal analyses. Interdisciplinary approaches are also
welcome. There are no restrictions as to chronological period or geographical scope.
