CALL FOR PAPERS: "Political and legal thought on authoritarianism in the 20th century"
Moreover, this emphasis on theory does not, of course, diminish the relevance of practical outcomes; rather, it avoids embarking on an interpretively unproductive path—namely, the claim that these were “imperfect” authoritarian or totalitarian regimes merely because of a greater or lesser gap between ideological visions and their implementation. Such an approach has often served to downplay the impact that authoritarian or totalitarian experiences have had on the histories of different national contexts.
Contributors are encouraged to engage also with the political and legal thought that inspired and supported the transition from authoritarian or totalitarian regimes to systems of a different character. It would likewise be of interest to highlight points of convergence and divergence with contemporary populist and autocratic regimes.
For this reason, the forthcoming thematic volume of Acta Universitatis Lodziensis. Folia Iuridica will be devoted to the topic: “Political and legal thought on authoritarianism in the 20th century.”
Authors are invited to submit articles addressing the themes outlined above. Contributions, devoted to the examination of political and legal thought within (and of) twentieth-century authoritarianisms, are expected to engage with methodological questions, to adopt, where possible, a comparative perspective, and to incorporate interdisciplinary approaches. There are no geographical restrictions, provided that the focus remains on twentieth-century authoritarian or totalitarian regimes.
