The certification system of Polish as a foreign language from the perspective of the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange – experiences and challenges

Abstract

The article presents the state certification system of Polish language proficiency as a foreign language from the perspective of the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) – the institution responsible by law for the administrative and financial support of the State Commission for the Certification of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language. The authors discuss the Agency’s experiences in taking over the task of managing the certification system and the challenges associated with it. The article outlines NAWAʼs tasks related to supporting the State Commission and entities authorized to organize exams, the issue of the rapidly increasing number of candidates, and the consequences thereof. Additionally, the authors identify elements of the system that, in their view, require improvement and modernization.
