The article analyses how data visualizations function as a communicative layer in Formula 1 broadcasts. Drawing on a qualitative, inventory-based review of all 24 race weekends in the 2024 season (practice sessions, qualifying, sprints, and races), the study treats each on-screen graphic overlay as the unit of analysis. The aim is not to measure frequency, but to identify recurrent types of broadcast graphics and to classify them by their dominant communicative function. The analysis proposes a functional typology comprising five categories: informational, strategic-analytical, narrative, technical (telemetry-based), and entertainment or community-oriented overlays. The findings suggest that informational graphics provide continuous situational awareness, while strategic and technical overlays are typically activated at interpretive “turning points” (e.g., pit-stop phases or close battles), guiding audience attention and framing causal explanations.
