Kłodzko catering in the years 1945–1970 in the regional press

Abstract

Shortly after the end of the Second World War, Poles began to take over the post-German catering establishments in Kłodzko, but they did not enjoy their possession for long, for after a crackdown on private catering establishments in the late 1940s, came the activities of cooperative inns, among others. Until the October thaw, catering establishments generally did not encourage visitors. Only in the second half of the 1950s did they tentatively begin to employ visual artists. Catering establishments were constantly crowded, and people often waited a long time for a vacant seat, only to lose time later to fill their order. However, throughout the entire period of interest, the quality of the food served left a lot to be desired. Service was also poor. Inadequate staffing was a difficult problem to solve. In the early 1960s, half of all catering staff were unqualified. In the second half of the 1960s there was a fashion for folklore and folklore, and one of the best known establishments of this type in the Wrocław voivodeship was the Kłodzko “Wilcza Jama”.
