The articledescribes the life of General Wacław Iwaszkiewicz-Rudoszański (1971–1922). He was born in Omsk, in a Polish family, which was sent to Siberiaafter the January Uprising. He was a professional officer of the Russian army and he served in various units in the Far East. He took part in the suppression of the so-called Boxer Rebellion in China and in the Russo-Japanese War of 1904–1905. After the outbreak of the First World War, he commanded the 54th regiment of Siberian shooters. In 1915 he was promoted to the rank of general-major. He served in the Russian army until 1917 – and then commanded the 3rd Rifle Division in the 1st Polish Corps in Russia. After Poland regained independence, he served in the Polish Army and in turn commanded: General District No. III Kielce, Lithuanian-Belarussian Division, and from March 1919 he was the commander of the Polish Army to Eastern Galicia. He then commanded the relief for Lwów, which liberated the city from the threat by the Ukrainian Army. In the years 1919–1920 he commanded in turn: the Galician Front, the 6th Army and the Southern Front. Then – from September 1920 to May 1921, he was the commander of the General District No. 1 in Warsaw. As a result of illness, he was retired and soon died in Warsaw (he was buried in Lviv). As one of the few, he was awarded the Order of Virtuti Militari in the 2nd class.
