Abstrakt

Niekiedy katalizator jawi się jako siła stymulująca gwałtowny rozwój turyzmu. Katalizator ten często przybiera formę niezwykłego zjawiska, wydarzenia lub atrakcji, i staje się bodźcem dla intensywnego rozwoju politycznego i gospodarczego, przekształcającego nowe przestrzenie na potrzeby turyzmu. W pewnej niewielkiej miejscowości w Nowej Szkocji, w Kanadzie, tym katalizatorem było przyznanie w 1995 r. tytułu Miejsca Dziedzictwa Światowego przez UNESCO. Poniższy artykuł prezentuje badania postaw i percepcji mieszkańców dotyczących tej nominacji, rozwoju turyzmu, konsekwencji i zmian w miejscowości 10 lat po otrzymaniu prestiżowej nagrody.
