Leszek Butowski

Professor Leszek Butowski was born in 1965, in Warsaw. In 1991-1999, he was a lecturer and researcher at the University of Warsaw. In 1992, he received a scholarship of the French government and the World Tourism Organization at the University of Paris (Panthéon Sorbonne), where he completed post-graduate studies in international tourism. He gained his PhD degree in 1995 in Geography and Regional Studies at the University of Warsaw..

In 1996-1999, he was the Director of the Tourism Promotion Warsaw Office. Until 2002, he was the Director of the European Integration, Regional Development and Tourism Department at the Masovian Province Office. In 2002-2011, he was an independent expert on regional development and tourism, and a consultant for the Ministry of Regional Development, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Sport and Tourism, as well as for territorial self-governments and non-governmental organizations. In 2011, he presented his habilitation dissertation at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin. Since 2012, he has been the Vice-Rector for Research at the School of Hospitality in Warsaw (Vistula University Group). Since 2017, he has held the title of the University of Łódź professor. He is the author of ten books and 120 scientific papers devoted to tourism, regional development and research methodology issues. His private passion is sailing. He owns his own yacht named “Lidusia”.
