A biography of Professor Michał Reicher (1888 - 1973)

Professor Michał Reicher, outstanding Polish anatomist and physical anthropologist had been born in Sosnowiec, Poland (Nov. 17, 1888). He has graduated from University of Zürich, wherefrom he recieved PhD in 1912. After assistantships at universities in Zürich and Warsaw he had been offered a chair of anatomy at Stefan Batory University in Vilno (1920/21). He remained in this chair until World War II, occasionaly working also as a dean of the medical school and performing many other duties in various scientific institutions and learned societies. After the war Michał Reicher accepts a chair of anatomy at medical school in Gdańsk where he remains until his, death in 1973. His main area of interest was anthropomorph logy of soft parts, however he made a number of important contributions to other subdisciplines of medical sciences and physical anthropology.
