Author Biography

  • Philip Parr, University of Gloucestershire, UK

    Philip Parr is Artistic Director of Parrabbola, Director of the York International Shakespeare Festival, and Chair of the European Shakespeare Festivals Network. He also lectures in Classical Theatre at the University of Gloucestershire. His Shakespeare productions include Henry V [man and monarch] and FEAST: a play in one cooking, both festival circuit regulars, as well as Pericles Prince of Tyre for the Csiky Gergely Theatre in Timisoara. He has directed site-specific, promenade performances of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Romeo and Juliet in Craiova, and Pericles and The Winter’s Tale in Gdansk and Ostrava. Notably, he staged a cross-border The Winter’s Tale between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. He has been involved in Codename Othello by Ukrainian playwright Olga Annenko, premiered in York in 2025 which will tour Ukraine in 2026.
