Abstract

Material for the present study consists of body measurements of 2450 individuals of both sexes. Among them are 1458 individuals with medium and considerable mental retardation and 992 severely retarded ones. Age of subjects ranges from 2 to 45 years. Measurements were standarized with, respect to age and sex on the norm provided by the Anthropometric Survey of Poland. Degree to what subjects deviate from the norm (expressed in standard deviation units) is presented in the table 1, sexual dimorphism in the same units in the table 2. Examined oligophrenics were in general smaller than their normal counterparts having unharmonious physique with tendency towards pedomorphy. Dynamics of body dimension changes with age of subjects also differs from the norm. Sexual dimorphism of the retarded individuals was found to be much smaller than that of normals ones.
