Abstract

278 male and 179 female cranials were measured with regard to actual content and, taking into account the craniometrical point outlines, lateral and posterior norms were outlined. The outlines were drawn on milimeter paper with the cranials disposed in Frankfurt's plane. The areas of the lateral and posterior norms were estimated in cm2 for each cranial, and the factors of correlation to content were calculated. The values served to establish equations whereby from the areas of the surfaces of lateral and posterior norms the cranial content can be reproduced when cranial damage makes it impossible to apply other methods. The results obtained in this way were compared to those obtained by the methods of Pearson, Belniak and Manouvrier. For cranials of both sexes, the value closest to the actual content is the arithmethic average of the contents calculated with the regression formulae from the norm's surface areas of the lateral and posterior cranial.
