Abstract

Palm prints of 617 males and 617 females living in the northern part of Poland constituted a material for the present study. Description of hand dermatoglyphes comprises terminations of the main lines (tab. 1) and pattern frequencies in separate morphological; regions of the palm: interdigital areas, thenar and hypothenar (see tables 3, 8 and 9 respectively). Ridge number in subdigital area has been analysed statistically (tab. 5). For homologous interdigital areas of right and left hands ridge numbers were correlated (tab. 6). Obtained results are compared to data given by other Polish authors (tables: 2, 4, 7, 8, 9). Frequencies of dermatoglyphic traits among people of Northern Poland are in general similar to those found among other groups of Polish people. In the present study regularities such as sexual dimorphism and asymmetry are similar to those established on other materials.
