The paper presents results of investigations on the enzymatic system of D esterase of red cells in 3796 adult subjects of both sexes, not related to each other, living in Wielkopolska region.
The following gene frequencies were found: EsD1 = 0.899 and EsD2- = 0.101, and the phenotypic parts were determined; for phenotype EsD 1 they are 80.16%, for EsD 2-1: 19.42% and for EsD 2: 0.42%.
The gene frequencies observed in the population of Wielkopolska were compared with the gene frequencies occurring in other regions of Poland and it was found that they are convergent. It was also determined that the EsD gene frequencies of Wielkopolska region are close to the frequencies in other mid-European and West-European populations, while there are significant differences in comparison with populations from the outside of Europe.
