About the Journal

Focus and Scope of Journal

The Annales. Ethics in Economic Life (published 1998-2020) is a scientific journal dedicated to ethical aspects of economic life. The articles concentrate on  the  ethical consequences of phenomena taking place in  the global and European economy, corporate social responsibility, business ethics, the processes of creation and enforcement of ethical codes and ethical problems of the academic community. The authors who publish in the 'Annales' come from national and foreign research centres as well. We have the honour to welcome to our pages the leading Polish business ethicists, economists, econometrics, representatives of the public sector and politicians, who express their views on the ethical aspects of economic life.

The journal was established in 1998 by Salezjańska Wyższa Szkoła Ekonomii i Zarządzania (Salesian Higher School of Economics and Management) in Lodz. This business college had functioned as its editor till 2012, when this periodical was taken over by the Faculty of Economics and Sociology of the University of Lodz. Despite this change the 'Annales. Ethics in Economic Life' is being published uninterruptedly, and the new, 15th volume came out in print in May 2012.

Since 2014 the Annales. Ethics in Economic Life has been published quarterly.

From the very beginning the journal has been accompanied by a scientific conference 'Ethics in economic life' organised in Lodz since 1997. This annual meeting provides incentives for reflection and exchange of views of the scientific community, which in many cases leads to the drawing up of papers subsequently published in the journal.

Amount of research and review articles which were published last year: 59

The Annales. Ethics in Economic Life standards of integrity are based on the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

In accordance with the recommendations stipulated by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education in the amended Higher Education Act, we apply the principles of publishing ethics, following the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). In September 2018, COPE and the University of Łódź concluded an agreement, which is an expression of appreciation for the publishing policy implemented for our journals.

COPE, which federates 10,000 members representing all academic branches from around the world, provides publishers with expertise in publishing ethics, offers advice on how to react to violations, and constitutes a forum where its members can exchange knowledge and experience by presenting specific cases regarding ethical issues.

For authors and reviewers, COPE membership is a guarantee that a publisher maintains the highest ethical standards and follows the rules stipulated within COPE’s code of practice.

Review Process

To ensure honest and unbiased assessment of papers submitted to the Editorial Board of the 'Annales. Ethics in Economic Life' / 'Annales. Etyka w życiu gospodarczym', they are evaluated according to the review procedure recommended by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education in Poland.

All the papers are assessed by two independent reviewers who are not affiliated with the research centres of the authors. The evaluation is carried out in accordance with the procedure of double anonymity of the reviewer and the author of the article (double-blind review process). In cases of papers written in a foreign language, at least one of the reviewers is affiliated to a research centre located in a country other than that from which the author comes.

The reviews are provided in writing. The reviewer concludes categorically whether an article is ready for publishing, ought to be corrected or should be rejected. On the basis of the reviews the Editorial Board takes a decision to publish, reject or send the paper back to the author to make necessary corrections.

The authors can reply to the reviews. These replies are considered by the Editorial Board.
