Ontogenetic studies on children and adolescents from the island Flores (Indonesia)

The study presents measurement results of 12172 children in the age of 1-16 years made in the period 1978-1979 on the island Flores (Indonesia). The measurements comprised: height, body weight, and arm circumference. The results are presented in comparison with measurements of Indonesian children from Java and Madura [Sri Kardjati et al. 1977 - 79]. Differences are interpreted by the author as results of interpopulatioral variability (Proto-Malayan population on Flores, Deutro-Malayan population on Java and Madura). The presently used development standards (Harvard Standards reduced by 20%) have been criticized and an elaboration of new regionaliy individualized standards has been suggested.
