Abstract

The subject of the study is the connection between the sexualization process and eating disorders. This paper attempts to check whether there is a relation between the phenomena taking into account the three dimensions of sexualisation (cultural, interpersonal and intrapersonal) included in the Sexualisation Vulnerability Questionnaire and the symptoms of eating disorders included in the six scales of The Anorexia Nervosa Inventory for Self-Rating. With this end in view, an empirical procedure was carried out, preceded by a presentation of the issues raised in the light of the data available in the literature. The sample included 115 women. The findings indicate relationships between sexualization and eating disorders susceptibility on global level and relationships at individual scales. The most important conclusions drawn from the research are: susceptibility to sexualization is most strongly associated with focus on appearance and body weight. The intrapsychic factor is most strongly associated with the tendency to eating disorders. No statistically significant correlation was found between the cultural factor and susceptibility to eating disorders.
