Abstract

The subject of the hereby presented article is an analysis of the exchange emerging in social interactions occurring between the social world of the homeless, meaning the world of “theirs”, and the world of the “others” identified with hostility, otherness, and inaccessibility. Analysis of the homeless’ biographies allows for the reconstruction of certain mechanisms revealing during the interactions. They take the form of more formal ones, connected with the world of the “guardians”, or those of a more informal nature, occurring in the world of the “family”, the world of passers-by or black labor market. Knowing the biography of a homeless person can help to differentiate: the factors inducing him or her to interact with the “others”, his or her expectations related to it and the importance attributed to the action taken. The presentation of the course of interactions, from the perspective of the homeless themselves (as those most involved and interested in their own destiny) has been facilitated by participative studies conducted by the author.
